Public Police NGO launches its chapter in West Bengal

Kolkata, 4th June 2022: The Public Police has been incorporated as a Registered trust (NGO) at Delhi with the blessings of its Chairman, Mr. Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, former Chief Justice of India and Ex- Chairman National human Rights Commission and with the guidance of former high Court Judges, former senior IAS Officers, former Law Secretaries and other distinguished members from different walks of life.

The aim of the NGO is to establish itself as a trustworthy and reliable interconnection link between society and law enforcement agencies to ensure greater confidence mutually, to create public awareness and build a stronger relationship with the community.

The press conference was presided over by the chairman of Public Police NGO, former Chief Justice of India, Justice K.G. Balakrishnan.

Dr.H.P. Kanoria President of the West Bengal Chapter said, let us work together for serving the people and for harmony and peace.

We need to generate awareness and familiarise several laws, rules & regulations. We intend to organise conferences, camps, events and meet people at large. We are confident that people will have happiness and harmony.

Dr. Rahul Varma, Secretary General, of the State chapter of Public Police NGO emphasized on the need for this NGO which will become a trustworthy and reliable intercommunication link between the society and Law Enforcing Agencies.


About Public Police NGO

The police are entrusted with the duty of maintaining peace and harmony and protecting lives of the people in a society. It is true that most Indians view police with a certain trepidation and avoid reaching out to them or even to report a complaint out of fear or apprehension.The NGO inclines to re-establish a bond between public and police and effectively work together in diminishing crime in alliance with care and tenderness for a better tomorrow.

The NGO wishes to identify police as a friend who are capable in handling situations with compassion and care. Hence act as a bridge between public and police to fight against crime. By doing so it would decrease crime and violence from the society. Citizen’s participation with the police and individuals and organizations will increase and transfer into safer neighbourhoods.

Furthermore, the NGO aims to help people by registering complaints and addressing them with the help of police and government authorities, to promote about legal rights and responsibilities of the citizens, to honour police personals, law enforcement agencies and members from the public for their outstanding service to the society.

The Activity

With the aim for creating awareness the NGO will hold regular meetings with Social organizations, lawyers, Judges, philanthropists govt., Resident Welfare Societies Student bodies, sundry groups and others. To reduce crime the Public police will initiate programmes to increase the use of restorative justice and advocate alternatives to arrest and incarceration as a means of reducing crime. Harm reduction programmes for drug abuse, alcoholism, domestic violence will be considered. Efforts would be made to facilitate centres at the police stations.

The NGO will take up other initiatives as need arises.
